Growth in consumer local produce preference benefits Skymark CPP Production

Leading independent manufacturer and supplier of cast polypropylene films, Skymark, is benefiting from the growth in local sourcing being demanded by consumers and environmentalists. Being based in the agricultural heartlands of North Lincolnshire sees Skymark’s SKYLENE range of cast PP films in hot demand for the UK fresh produce market.

Skymark invested in a new five-layer cast PP line in 2013 to open up new markets in produce, stationery, flower wrap, lamination and medical supplies. The line produces CPP film from 20 to 150 microns, up to 2,800mm wide, and has the capability to supply 5,500 tonnes per annum.

CPP delivers a low-gauge film-packaging solution with excellent mechanical strength and sealing capability.

Paul Neath, Skymark Director said: “CPP is used for carrots, onions and parsnips where impact resistance is required to ensure the goods don’t break through the film. However, we’ve also seen significant growth in softer produce due to our high-gloss offer combined with high-definition flexographic print.”

Supplying white lamination, anti-mist and peelable solutions under the SKYLENE brand, Skymark has also seen growth in the bread flow wrap market in recent months.

Paul Glover, Skymark Technical Director, comments: “The key to Skymark’s steady growth in a wide variety of market applications has been our commitment to continuous improvement. Retailers are focused on high-quality but at optimum cost, and with our investment in modern equipment and fast response service approach, which we know is critical to many of the fresh categories, the business is going from strength to strength.”
